Privacy statement
Permaculture in New Zealand Incorporated (PiNZ) respects your privacy. This statement explains what personal information we collect through this website, why, who can see it, and how you can see, correct or remove it. It follows the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address and a securely scrambled form of your password. We never store your password itself.
- Your profile: anything you choose to add, such as your name, photo, phone number, website, region, the "about" and "skills to share" sections, and your permaculture background.
- Your membership: when it started and ends, your rate, how you paid, and payment amounts and references.
- Newsletter: whether you have asked to receive the PiNZ newsletter, and when you confirmed or unsubscribed.
- Messages you send us through the contact form.
- Security records: records of sign-ins and changes, used to protect accounts and to show who made administrative changes.
Card payments are handled by Stripe. PiNZ never sees or stores your card number.
Why we collect it
We use your information to run your account and membership, send the emails you ask for (such as sign-in links, renewal reminders and the newsletter), answer your messages, run the members directory and the yearly hui, keep the website secure, and meet our legal and accounting obligations as an incorporated society.
Who can see it
- You and PiNZ administrators can see your profile and membership.
- The members directory is opt-in. If you choose to be listed, current members who are logged in can see your name, photo, region, "about", skills and email, and your phone number if you choose to share it. You can stop being listed at any time.
- Public roles. If you hold a public role with PiNZ, such as council member, affiliated teacher or designer, or hui speaker, your name, photo, region and "about" appear on public pages of this website. Your contact details are never shown publicly.
- Service providers process information for us: Haume hosts the website and its data, SMTP2GO delivers our emails, and Stripe processes card payments. Some of these providers store information outside New Zealand. We do not sell your information, and we do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Cookies
This website uses only the cookies it needs to work: one keeps you signed in, and one protects forms from being misused. We do not use analytics or advertising cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and profile while you have an account. If you close your account, we remove your profile and photo straight away. We keep membership and payment records for seven years because the law requires us to keep financial records.
Your choices and rights
- See and correct your information: log in and use your profile, or ask us.
- Download your information: log in and go to Your data.
- Close your account: also under Your data.
- Stop the newsletter: use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter, or your newsletter settings.
If you have a concern about how we handle your information, please contact us first. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
